Our planet Earth is only a tiny part of the universe, but nowadays it’s the only place where we can live. People have lived on our planet for many years. They lived and live on different continents, in different countries. People depend on their planet, the sun, animals and plants around them. Environment is everything in the world around us that surround and affects all life on earth, including the air, food, water, plants, animals and other.
Environment is the place where we live. Since ancient time nature has served man, being the source of his life. For thousands of years people lived in harmony with environment and it seemed to them that natural riches were unlimited. But man’s interference in nature began to increase with the development of civilization. Our ecology becomes worse and worse with every new day. Many species of animals and birds are disappearing nowadays. People destruct wildlife, cut down trees to make furniture. They forget that people can’t live without trees and plants, because they fill air with oxygen.
There are a lot of ecological problems. The most serious ecological problems are: noise from cars and buses; destruction of wildlife and countryside beauty; shortage of natural resources; the growth of population; pollution in its many forms. Water is everywhere, but there is no ocean or sea which is not used as a dump. Many rivers and lakes are poisoned too. Fish and reptiles can’t live in them. People can’t drink this water. So we have to clean the water environment. Another problem is air pollution. Air pollution influents the health of people. For example: ultraviolet radiation from the sun can cause skin cancer. Normally the ozone layer in the atmosphere protects us from such radiation, but if there are holes in the ozone layer ultraviolet radiation can get to the earth. Many scientists think that these holes are the result of air pollution. Also we have problem with nuclear pollution. Nuclear pollution cannot be seen but its effect can be terrible. To make air clear clean again we need good filters at nuclear power stations, at factories, in cars and buses.
Another problem is growth of population. They don’t have enough places to live. They need more water, more food. So it is the reason of the shortage of the natural resources. It is very difficult to solve this problem. Also one of the most serious problems is greenhouse effect. It works like this: sunlight gives us heat. Some of the heat warms the atmosphere and some of the heat goes back into space. Nowadays the heat can’t go into space. That’s why winter and summer temperatures in many places have become higher. If the temperature continues growing up the snow on the mountains and ice will melt, so the most of the earth will be under water. So every person has to understand how important it is to solve these problems, which endanger people’s life.

I think that Russia is one of the dirtiest countries in the world. In Russia almost every family has a car. And fumes of cars are very dangerous. Our factories, cars, trains and planes make the air dirty, so the atmosphere is polluted.
Many cities suffer from smog. Vast forests are cut and burnt in fire. Their disappearance upsets the oxygen balance. As a result some rare species of animals, birds, fish and plants disappear forever, a number of rivers and lakes dry up. When you use water wisely, you help the environment.
People always polluted their surroundings. But until now pollution was not such a serious problem. People lived in rural areas and did not produce such amount of polluting agents that would cause a dangerous situation in global scale. I do not want my family to live in polluted environment.
Fortunately, it’s not too late to solve these problems . I find many simple ways to help our planet in everyday life. We can plant trees and create parks for endangered animals.
We can recycle our wastes; persuade enterprises to stop polluting activities, because it is apparent that our careless use of fossil fuels and chemicals is destroying this planet. And it is now more than ever apparent that at the same time we are destroying our bodies and our future.
I’m sure all is in hands of people. I call up: Protect environment, save nature!

Я думаю, что Россия одна из самых загрязненных стран в мире. В России большинство семей имеют машину. В обычной семье часто бывает две или более машин. И выхлопы от машин очень опасны. Наши заводы, машины, поезда и самолеты делают воздух грязным, поэтому атмосфера загрязнена.
Многие города страдают от смога. Огромные леса вырубаются и сжигаются. Их исчезновение нарушает кислородный баланс. В результате некоторые редкие виды животных, птиц, рыб и растений навсегда исчезают. Высыхают многие реки и озера. ()При использовании воды с умом, вы помочь окружающей среде.
Люди всегда загрязняли все вокруг. Но до сих пор загрязнение не было такой серьезной проблемой. Люди жили в сельских районах и не производили такого количества загрязняющих компонентов, которые могли вызвать опасную ситуацию в глобальном масштабе. 5. Я не хочу, чтобы моя семья живем в загрязненной окружающей среды.
К счастью, еще не поздно и мы можем решить эти проблемы. Я нахожу много простых способов помочь нашей планеты в повседневной жизни.
Мы можем высаживать деревья и создавать парки для животных, находящихся в опасности.
Мы можем перерабатывать отходы, убедить предпринимателей прекратить загрязнение окружающей среды, так как ясно, что наше безрассудное использование топлива и химических веществ разрушает нашу планету и более того, ясно и то, что мы разрушаем себя и свое будущее.
Я уверена – все в руках человека. Я призываю: Защитите окружающую среду, сохраните природу!
David: - Hello, Susan. I’m very surprised to see you here. You look so tired. What"s wrong?
Susan: - Hello, David. Nothing happened, I just have changed my job. I have been working on night shifts at a big water supply company for two months. I’m working all night, then I have two days off, and it starts again. I’m totally exhausted!
David: - I totally understand you. It"s terribly uncomfortable, that"s the only way I can describe it. Working an eight-hour night shift from 10pm to 6am is so much more different from eight hours in the daytime. I do both throughout the week. Staying awake after midnight is an integral part of our business - and so my body is in a constant process of jetlag. Believe me, this type of work could cause “chaos” for your body and may result in long-term health problems.
Susan: - I know that my tiredness is caused by the jetlag, but I couldn"t have any day work at an office or shop. This is because I have two babies and old mother. I have no choice.
David: - I see. So, why don’t you try to find a freelance work!?As I know, you received a degree in linguistic and English philology some years ago. You could edit, write or translate some articles for web-sites and magazines staying at home. If I were you I would try it. The most important advantage of being a freelancer is that you can work whenever you want. You could choose your own hours. If you want to sleep in until noon or go abroad with your family, you can do that. You might choose your clients and keep all your profits!
Susan: - That’s a very delightful prospect, but being a freelancer means that my income and workload will not be fixed, stable and consistent. Furthermore, it will be so hard to distinguish my work and free time. Besides, I’ll lose my health benefits, paid vacation and wage bonuses. I should think about it properly, but freelancing sounds great. Thank you for advice.
David: - You are always welcome!

Сьюзен: - Привет, Дэвид. Да ничего особенного не произошло, я просто сменила работу. Я уже два месяца работаю в ночную смену в крупной компании по водоснабжению. Работаю целую ночь, затем у меня два выходных дня, и все повторяется заново. Я чувствую себя полностью опустошенной!
Дэвид: - Я тебя прекрасно понимаю. Всё это я могу описать только следующими словами: это очень неудобно. Рабочий восьмичасовой день с 10 вечера до 6 утра очень сильно отличается от восьмичасовой дневной смены. Я работаю и так, и так в течение недели - бодрствование после полуночи является неотъемлемой частью нашей работы, и, таким образом мое тело постоянно страдает от синдрома смены часовых поясов. Поверь мне, подобный график работы может ввести твой организм в состояние хаоса и привести к длительным проблемам со здоровьем.
Сьюзен: - Я знаю, что моя усталость вызвана этим синдромом смены часовых поясов, но я могу работать днем в офисе или магазине, потому что у меня два маленьких ребенка и пожилая мать. У меня нет выбора.
Дэвид: - Понятно. Итак, почему бы тебе не попробовать найти внештатную работу (фриланс)!? Насколько я знаю, ты получила диплом лингвиста и специалиста в области английской филологии несколько лет назад. Ты можешь редактировать, писать или переводить статьи для веб-сайтов и журналов, сидя у себя дома. Если бы я был на твоём месте, я бы попробовал. Самое главное преимущество во внештатной работе заключается в том, что ты можешь работать, когда захочешь. Ты можешь выбрать любое время для работы. Если ты хочешь, спать до полудня или поехать за границу со своей семьей, то сможешь сделать это. Ты можешь сама выбрать своих клиентов и получать всю прибыль полностью!
Сьюзен: - Эта идея кажется очень заманчивой, но работа фрилансером подразумевает собой отсутствие постоянной нагрузки и фиксированного стабильного заработка. Более того, мне будет очень сложно разделять свою работу и свободное время. А еще, я лишусь своей медицинской страховки, оплачиваемого отпуска и денежных премий. Мне нужно это тщательно обдумать, но фриланс действительно звучит здорово. Спасибо за совет.
